Coffee, cake and popularity

I recently went to Bacolod to visit my dad. I was told that there are a lot of pastry shops, coffee shops, restaurants and what nots in Bacolod. When I got there, it was true. There was A LOT.

I'll be posting more about it later with photos for the mean time, I came across the Starbucks in Shangri-la.

This sort of makes me excited, Starbucks is getting a new look! I wonder if they'll be going for a hospital themed cafe.

Peppermint mocha, milk tea and gelato

My morning habits are coming back as school will start tomorrow - for me. Unlike most college students whose semester resumed last Monday, classes resume tomorrow and we're not resuming a semester. It's a whole new trimester in my school, it's gonna be like the first day of college all over again. It has become a habit of mine to ride with my dad going to Taft. He drops me off outside his office and from there I commute. Both of us love coffee especially in the morning; every time I ride with him, we pass by Starbucks and we grab ourselves our favorite drinks (venti, no whip, add jelly coffee jelly for him and venti, non-fat, no whip, peppermint mocha for me) and unlike the last time, this drink was perfect. I took a sip from my drink and "Aah, yeah, this is my drink alright ;)"

After my dad dropped me off somewhere near his office, I rode an FX going to school. I was disappointed at how it looked, it looks worse compared to the last time we were in school which was around second week of December. What happened to our school? Serenitea, the name was catchy and I missed drinking milk tea so I went in and gave it a try.

Large Chocolate Milk tea P105
My drink cost me P105 and I found it quite over priced comparing it to the milk tea I usually bought in school which only cost P60 for the same drink and size. Although it was quite pricy for a milk tea, they offered options that my P60 milk tea did not, they asked me what I want instead of the usual tapioca pearls (though those were not available; thus, the presentation of the option) nonetheless, my P60 milk tea was served with either tapioca pearls of nothing. I didn't like Serenitea's other options in place of the tapioca pearls so I had my milk tea as is. I was busy staring at the menu when the cashier asked me "sweetness level ma'am?", I was taken aback. What, there's a sweetness level? WOW, I can have it as bitter as I want, what is awesome! So I took my time examining their options for the sweetness level and for a change, I opted for 75%. I waited for a couple of minutes for my 75% sweet large chocolate milk tea and when it was served, I was surprised with the packaging, it was cute! For some reason, I was excited to take a sip of my Serenitea! I punched the straw, excited to drink and I took my first sip. It wasn't as great as my P60 milk tea - it lacked chocolate and it was still too sweet for my taste though I love how I could taste the tea.

So I walked around the mall with my milk tea in hand. When I was almost done with my drink, my stomach signaled me - oh no. I went to my favorite restroom which was located somewhere inside the department store. Only a few people knew about that place and there was tissue there. I took my time releasing the unwanted stress in my stomach. The moment I stepped out of the cubicle, the janitor gave me this smile saying "ALAM NA!" Oh well, I don't care, everyone does that, right? Hahahaha

After my restroom adventure, I went around the mall again looking for a place where I can sit down and use the mall's free wifi. I love malls with free wifi. So I went in and out different coffee shops looking for a seat but there was none then I came across this stall in the middle of the mall - Arts Cream Gallery, it's a typical gelato store but this is what makes them unique:

Gigantic umbrellas and air fresheners

Mint gelato P60
It wasn't the most ideal place for me to stay in because of their lack of sockets but it was fine, I managed to stay there and wait for my friend. I'm not a huge fan of gelato but this one was okay. Not all stores that sell gelato separate mint from peppermint - you might think there's no difference but there is. Mint is a whole lot different from peppermint. What the difference is? That should be a different post. I wan't able to finish my small gelato which was also quite expensive, btw. It's fine even if I saw it melting right before my eyes, at least I had a place to sit and enjoy the gigantic umbrellas and air fresheners.

Disappointments and empty promises

Sundays were never an event or anything special for my family - or so I thought. I guess my parents' new year's resolution is to keep the family close by eating together and spending the weekends together. I have nothing against that, I actually think it's great! Taking time to spend time with each other but then at home, we barely see each other. Not that our house is some kind of a palace or something but we'd opt to stay in our rooms and spend the day with our bed, phone or laptop. I guess they should try harder.

Moving on, we did what we always do on Sundays (whenever we get the time to do so), we went to mass then ate in some restaurant. I was having fun and all, we all laughed at Cafaye while eating and we also made fun of how slow the service was. See, each time a dish was served, we would all eat it but then the service is so slow that when the next dish comes, it's like we had nothing. Hahahaha We're such a monster family.

To end out day out with the family, my mom treated us Starbucks, yum! Everyone placed their orders and I got my non-fat, no whip, peppermint mocha, hot. I understood how it was taking longer than usual since there were only two baristas working with the drinks, we had to leave already but the drinks were not yet done so we waited for a couple more minutes. The moment our drinks were placed on the bar, we got our drinks then walked to the car - we were rushing because my dad's patience is surprisingly short.

I was so happy to end the day with my favorite drink from my favorite coffee shop but then when I took a sip, DISAPPOINTMENT. It was nowhere near my non-fat, no whip, peppermint mocha, hot! It was freaking MILK WITH ESPRESSO SHOTS where's the peppermint and mocha in that? OH. MY. GOD. This fucking ruined my day, I could not believe it. It could have been a mistake but OH MY GOD, ang tanga ng hayup na barista na yun for her not to notice that the drink was missing its key fucking ingredients! So there, that ruined my night. I'm planning to go back to the Starbucks in Shangri-la, ground floor and complain about the girl. Tell them how unhappy I was and how her mistake ruined my evening.

See, fate was on a roll, it didn't want to stop with ruining my drink, it went on and on. I thought I was about to snap but thank God I was able to at least pretend I was listening. So, you know how your parents sometimes talk about their dreams and ambitions with you? Yeah, I hate that. To me, they're empty promises that I know won't be happening. Hanggang ngayon, pangarap parin. So anong gagawin natin sa mga buhay natin? Mangangarap nalang ba tayo? Ako kasi, ayoko e, gusto ko yung nangyayari mga panagarap ko.

I hope the week won't be filled with these emotions alone, I want to be happy sometime this week.

Comfort in a cup

I was feeling a little down today, I don't know why. So I went to the nearest Starbucks and bought myself a grande, non-fat, no whip, Cafe Mocha :)

\

I used to order the regular Cafe Mocha but then I felt really bloated after drinking it so I opted for the lighter version, switching to non fat milk and holding to whip cream :) You'll definitely taste the difference within the first sip. The coffee stands out and it has a lighter taste to it which makes it a good drink after having your meal.

This is definitely comfort in a cup for me. The warm coffee, chocolate and milk blend so well together and they all woo my taste buds perfectly. This definitely made me feel better :) Though, I still don't know why I was feeling sad a while ago but that doesn't matter now. I am happy with my drink :)

What is your comfort drink? :)
